Porter William, age 26, passed away on September 10, 2024 after a courageous battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Born on April 8, 1998, Porter faced the challenges of Muscular Dystrophy with a strength and grace that inspired everyone around him. Despite the obstacles, he approached life with an infectious joy and a determination to live fully. His vibrant personality, kindness, and unwavering optimism touched the lives of friends, family, and even strangers.
Porter was a proud graduate of California State University Long Beach, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism. Porter also earned three Associate Degrees from Saddleback College. His academic achievements were a testament to his dedication and intellect, showcasing his commitment to learning and personal growth. Beyond his academic success, Porter was known for his love of Japanese Anime, Dungeons & Dragons, Star Wars, and Marvel/DC Comics. His love of books and writing were also a passion of his. One of Porter’s favorite quotes is, “I love sarcasm, it’s like punching people in the face, but with words.”
Porter’s family would like to make a special acknowledgement to Todd Keneley. Todd and Porter met at the beginning of Porter’s 6th grade year. Todd was assigned as Porter’s aide to help him at school. An instant friendship was formed over a love of wrestling, comics, and sarcastic wit. Todd was by Porter’s side from 6th Grade until Porter graduated from High School. Todd was a major influence for good in Porter’s life and a strong reason why Porter graduated high school. Porter loved Todd and we as a family are indebted to Todd for his service to Porter. Todd will always be part of our family and Porter’s legacy.
As Porter moved onto Saddleback College and then to California State University Long Beach, Todd handed the baton to Alex Bloom. Alex not only attended every college and university class that Porter took, but also rode the bus with him to Saddleback College, and then later drove him to California State University Long Beach 3x a week until Porter graduated. When Porter graduated from California State University Long Beach, Porter had Alex walked across the stage in recognition of Alex’s efforts to help Porter graduate.
A final shout out to Porter’s friends Alex, Avery, Dean, Jenna, Josh, and Sydney. Since High School they formed a special bond over Gaming, Comics, Dungeons & Dragons, and hanging out and talking about life. Porter loved them all as they all helped him navigate his journey in this life.
Porter is survived by his loving Parents Keri & Brent Cranmer, Christopher & Christa Aydelotte, Brothers (Camo, Robert, Jason), Step-Siblings (Riley & Kayleigh Brusik), who will cherish the memories of their time together and find comfort in the legacy of love and resilience he leaves behind. He is also survived by his Great Grandmother (Margaret Christensen), Grandparents (Fred & Mary Klug, Gloria Aydelotte, and Randy Roberts & Sherry Tuttle), and his many Great-Grandparents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins, who were privileged to share in his journey. He was preceded in death by his Grandmother (Catherine Cranmer) and his beloved dogs, Sue and Booth.
