Phil Vance Sperry peacefully returned to his loving Heavenly Father, November 16, 2018, with his family by his side. He fought a long hard battle with Parkinson's disease.
Phil was born on July 22, 1942, to Grant Park and NellaV Jensen Sperry. He is the third of six children. He married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Mae Williams on September 1, 1962, where they were sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple for time and all eternity.
Phil graduated from Juab High School and loved his high school years. He participated in basketball, baseball, football, tennis and track, where he lettered in each of these sports. He was a part of the 1959 and 1960 Juab Basketball Team that won back-to-back State Championships. He also served as Student body President his Senior year and Student body Vice President his Junior year. Phil was also one of the first little league football coaches and Certified EMT's in Nephi. He was a Nephi City Councilman and a member of the America Legion Nephi Post # 1.
Phil graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked as a Medical Technologist at Utah Valley Hospital.
Phil joined the Utah National Guard where he was a part of the 1457th Engineering battalion. He later transferred to the 144th Evac Hospital where he served in Desert Storm.
Phil was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served many callings to the fullest.
He loved spending time with his family and watching them play sports and all of their activities. He loved traveling, gardening, genealogy, reading, and following BYU sports. He always looked forward to the annual 24th of July family sleepover.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, five children Meridee (Tony) Sperry, Lorilyn (Randall) Vickers, Tina (Curtis) Squire, Kyler Phil Sperry, and Mika Sperry: 25 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, family and friends. Siblings Joel (Kathy) Sperry, Randy (Chris) Sperry and Joy Ashley. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Errol and Johnny.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, Utah. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at the Nephi 12th Ward LDS Stake Center, 351 North 100 West, Nephi, Utah at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the funeral at Vine Bluff Cemetery in Nephi, Utah.
