Peggy Lee Wankier

Our dear mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Peggy Lee Winn Wankier, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2018 after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born May 21, 1944 in Payson, Utah to loving parents, DeVon Charles and Mildred LaVeryl Kelsey Winn. She grew up in Nephi in a farming family with four siblings.

Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Clem Jack Wankier August 5, 1961. Jack died in 1981 leaving her to raise two of her four children alone. After her sweetheart passed away, Peggy enjoyed a long and loving friendship with Roy Tolley. Peggy worked hard all of her life at various jobs. She took pride in keeping her house modern and her yard looking beautiful. Peggy loved her parents dearly. Despite her difficult fight with cancer, she still helped to take care of her 92 year-old mother.

Peggy was a wonderful mother and supported her children in all of their many interests. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to have them near. She took them on hikes and other adventures. She enjoyed a good horse ride in the mountains. Peggy was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and loved working at the museum. She took pride in the history of our local pioneers. She was a member of the LDS church and cherished the time she was a visiting teacher with her grandmother, Bertha Winn. She also enjoyed studying the scriptures.

Peggy is survived by her four children: Bart Jack (LaRee), Denise (Marlin) Park, Rodney C. (Marci), and Analee (Matt) Sessions, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her siblings include Joel Winn, Mark (JoAnn) Winn, Debbie (Kim) Hall, brother-in-law Glen Searle, and sisters-in-law Judy (Lee) Pitcher, Dorothy (Newell) Rigby, and Lillian (George) Fish. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister DeeAnn Searle, father and mother-in-law Clem and Vera Mellor Wankier, and great-grandson Evan Joey Park. Peggy also treasured her lifelong friends, Marilyn, Ann, and LaVee.
