Paul Snyder, age 96, passed away September 6, 2020 in Lehi, Utah. Paul had a wonderful sense of humor and described his life better than we could. He wrote the following in about 2009:
My Obituary
"Elaine has just written her obituary and now she is after me to write my obituary.
Since you are here to see me - PLEASE DON'T CRY FOR ME - I'M FREE but rather share with me my history.
These are the 4 loves of my life
1. Family
2. Flying
3. Fishing
4. I can't remember right now but it must have been fun. (Photography)
Having been raised in a good family I was taught more by example than words. My father taught me the value of good honest hard work. My mother taught love."
Paul was a man of few words. Fortunately, his wife, Elaine, was always there to help. She wrote this about Paul:
"Paul Snyder was born November 18, 1923 in Raines, Carbon County, Utah, son of Edwin (Ted) and Annie Cook Snyder. He married Elaine Thayn on May 3, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent 73 wonderful years together.
Paul grew up in the Uintah Basin, graduated from Altamont High School, attended the College of Eastern Utah in Price and graduated from Utah State College in Logan in Industrial Education.
During World War II he trained as a pilot. He loved to fly! He completed training to become a Bomber Pilot and had orders assigned to be sent overseas when the war ended. He served in the Utah National Guard for several years, where he continued flying. He never lost his love of flying and willingly took others for rides.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved God and took every opportunity he could to serve God and others. Paul made a commitment to read the scriptures every day and faithfully kept this commitment for as long as he was able. Paul and Elaine served three missions together. Their first was as newlyweds in the Eastern States Mission. After Paul retired, they served in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission and the Salt Lake Intercity Mission.
His employment included high school teacher, training department at Hercules, Plateau Mine Warehouseman and mechanic. He was able to build or fix most anything and was ready and willing to help anyone who needed his help. He especially enjoyed family, flying, fishing and photography."
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine and son Gaylen. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Doris Snyder, Richard and Becky Snyder, Lynn and Karla Snyder, Maurine and Elias Ashby, and Dale Snyder. He also leaves many beloved 25 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Due to COVID-19 concerns there will be no viewing or funeral. A family graveside service will be held in the Wellington Utah Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Beehive Homes of Lehi for their tender care of Paul and the Elevation Hospice teams for all their help and support with Paul and Elaine.
In lieu of flowers please eat ice cream and cookies for dinner and think of Paul. The family would love to hear your memories of Paul and Elaine. Please take a moment to share them on social media and on Family Search.
