Paul Stephen Ostler

Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend, Paul Stephen Ostler, passed away Tuesday at 85 after a struggle with ALS. Paul was born to LaVern (Steadman) and Stephen Ostler, and raised in South Jordan. He spent his childhood outdoors and around farms, before serving in the Army and moving to Virginia. Following that, he returned home and made a career at the Rio Grande Railroad. Upon retirement, he spent his summers farming with friends and family in Bluffdale.

Beyond farming, he enjoyed Westerns, trains, coins, tools, fishing, family, and trips to Wendover. He easily made friends and was known to bring his homegrown produce to many, from workers he met in Nevada to those at his doctor's office. Gardening kept him strong well into his 80s and, until his illness, he was still Mr. Fix-It for the family. He was a kind, honorable man and was adored by all who knew him. He loved his family dearly and they feel the same about him.

He is survived by his wife, Joan (Hansen), daughter Robyn, grandsons Ben (Tori) and Clayton (Kristy), and great-granddaughter Aly.

At Paul's request, there will be no services held. In honor of his memory, the family asks that everyone plant a tomato this spring and reflect on how lucky we are to have people like Paul in this world.
