Patrick Leland Benson, 82, passed away Friday, July 8, 2016 in Draper, Utah. He was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on October 2, 1933 to the late Daisy and Leland Benson. He graduated from El Paso High in 1950. He went on to Texas College of Mines (UTEP) where he was Mr. Miner before he graduated with a business accounting degree in 1954.
After graduation, Pat went to work at Standard Oil where he met his wife Judy Vermillion. He then worked for Farah Slacks and spent 3 years in Brussels, Belgium. After returning, he settled in Houston, Texas and worked at Cellar Door and Texas Tumbleweed Restaurants. After a call from John Tillotson, President of Lucchese Boots, he returned to El Paso to be the chief financial accountant. When John left Lucchese, Pat became President of Lucchese Boots. After he retired, Pat and Judy traveled the United States and Canada in their RV. They spent 8 summers in Fairbanks, Alaska working for Holland America at Gold Dredge No. 8.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George, his sisters, Dorothy and Helen, and son, Patrick Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Judith Anne Vermillion Benson of El Paso and his three children, Roberta Katchko, Janet Adair, and Michael Benson. Pat had seven grandchildren, John and Robin Katchko, Lauren Adair, Meagan Shelton, Austin Barnett, Zachary Hendley, and Roari Benson. He also has three great grandchildren, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Services for Pat will be Wednesday, July 13 at 7:30 at Goff Mortuary in Midvale, Utah.
