Parley Dean Goodrich

Parley Dean Goodrich, 82, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully Monday, August 12, 2024, surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Dean was born November 21, 1941, in Vernal, Utah, to Edith McConkie Goodrich and Darrell Goodrich. He was the youngest of five siblings and grew up on a farm in Tridell, Utah. From an early age, he developed a love of the Uinta Mountains, especially White Rocks Canyon. He graduated from Union High School in Roosevelt, Utah where he excelled as a wrestler. He served an LDS mission to the Austria, Salzburg mission. He graduated from BYU in 1967 with a major in English and a minor in German. He married Jacquelyn Michelle Rose in April of 1965, in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised five children in the home they built in 1970.

Dad was quiet and gentle and loved spending time with his family. He was a bookworm and had a passion for learning and writing, and spent many, many hours reading with and to his kids and grandkids. It wasn’t uncommon to find him with a flashlight and a book at any hour. He was a lifelong scholar and teacher and passed this on to his children and grandchildren. He had a deep love and understanding of the scriptures. He would study daily and deliberate with anyone willing. He loved deep conversations and enjoyed discussions of gospel doctrine. Dad had a dream of building a cabin for his family in Bear Lake. He designed and built the cabin along with his family, completing it in 1997 after several years of labor-intensive work. Dad loved the outdoors and took his kids on many hiking and camping trips, some of which were fond memories, some were memories of mosquito bites, soggy tents, and mud, but we wouldn’t change a thing.

He is survived by his wife Jackie, children Kellie (Quinn), Aimee (Tenny), Matt (Lena), Laura (Brett), and Tim (Charity), his grandchildren Taylor (Landon), Tanner (Yanka), Jordyn, Niki, Zhenya (Anthony), Camryn, Kaelyn, Isaac, Tyson, Kendyl, Easton, Tia, Iriyna, Eli, and two great-grandbabies Shae and Maesie. Our Dad and Grampa will be so deeply missed.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., and funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Chapel, 8435 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah. Interment, Herriman City Cemetery, 12300 South 6000 West, Herriman, Utah.
