Ollie Louise Rhoades McDonald, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away July 10, 2020, in Nephi, Utah of complications relating to lung cancer. She was 89 years old.
Louise was born in Obion, Tennessee in 1931. She grew up in California and Missouri, in a farming family. She loved telling about how she could "eat oranges right off the trees" when she lived in Lindsey, California. During her long life, she also lived in Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland, and Utah.
Louise married her first husband Arne Earl Angel, in 1952. Although they later divorced, they remained friends. Louise married Harrison (Joe) McDonald in the LDS temple in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1968. Joe was a widower with two sons, Joe and Peter. Louise had a daughter, Cindi, from her first marriage. Together they had four daughters, Laura, Angela, Belinda and Michelle. Louise loved to call her blended family, "Yours, Mine, and Ours."
Her careers included modeling, working as a real estate agent and Quality Assurance Manager for Rose Art Industries. She was also one of the first female escrow officers at her bank in California, with her own male assistant.
Most of her life was spent happily active and unshakably faithful in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Louise served many callings in the church, including Primary Music Leader and Primary President, and met many dear and wonderful friends there. Later in her life, she and her husband Joe served a temple mission for the church at the LDS temple in Washington DC. If you are not already a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, we know that Louise would like to direct you to LDS.org to learn more about the church she loved so much.
Louise will be remembered for her ready smile, and ability to talk to any stranger and make an instant friend. Her warm heart and friendliness put everyone at ease. She had a fun loving, larger than life personality that made being around her an absolute joy. Her kindness and generosity will forever be remembered because she loved to help anyone in need. She was always there with a delicious meal, an ear to listen, or a helping hand.
Louise was a strong and beautiful woman inside and out. She often stood up for others in times of adversity, and was fiercely anti-racist her whole life. Her deep love of people and especially children made her a mother to all. Her unforgettable holiday parties were the highlights of every year. And she will forever be remembered for her love of dancing, a love that she passed on to her family ("Old Time Rock and Roll" and "We Are Family" were her favorite dancing songs).
She was the lynchpin of our family, and we are all incredibly grateful to have had the time with her that we did. She will be forever loved and never forgotten.
Preceding Louise in death are her mother Sara, father James, sisters Myzella, Larrine, Jane, Suedell and brothers Thomas and James, her granddaughter Meghan, grandson Aaron, and great-great-granddaughter Mariah.
Surviving Louise are her husband Harrison (Joe) Mozel McDonald, daughters Cynthia Angel, Laura Poole, Angela Yoshida, Belinda Rocke and Naomi Michelle Robinson, sons Joseph McDonald and Peter McDonald. She is also survived by her "most beautiful and wonderful" 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints 7th Ward building, Nephi, UT (222 South 100 East) on Saturday, July 18th at 11:00 am.
