Olivia May Rodgerson was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, making her a fighter by default. Her last few months proved just how much fight she had in her.
She came into this world with a blonde streak in her hair, which the nurses described as angel kisses.
Olivia is one of the most precocious, sassy, salty and smart ladies you'll ever meet. She was reading at the 11th grade level going into middle school. She had a confidence that surpassed any other. "I got this" was a common phrase. She followed in her Grandma "Bob's" footsteps taking up ballet. Her nanny Penelope was often late to dropping her to practice because she would hide her tutu.
She was a mischievous prankster and usually had the smile of a Cheshire Cat. The exploding toilet prank of April Fools Day 2010 was a low point in her repertoire.
She was as much a tomboy as she was a princess. After a tumbling stint, she regained an interest in dance watching her sister Kelsie. She competed in ballet, contemporary, hip hop and jazz with her Dance Concepts family. Her friend Bella told her all about the awesome Hillcrest High drill team and she was so excited to try out. She was on the team for her Freshman, Sophomore and summer of her Junior year. Without the support of Cafe Rio, delivered by Aunt Cynnie, she would have never been able to dance.
Olivia packed a lot into every single day. Her friends and family were so important to her. She visited several countries, and traveled on cross country road trips. She loved building sandcastles and instagram photo shoots on the beach as much as haggling for knock off purses on Canal Street. Olivia loves the beaches in Hawaii, Mexico and California and has a love for sharks. Olivia was an animal lover and loved snuggling her Great Danes, Pug and cats.
She worked at Snowbird as a housekeeper and moved on to a career as a cookie baker at Mrs. Fields.
Her brother Jack was born shortly after Olivia's second birthday and she quickly became his spokesperson and fashion advisor.
Because she was used to speaking for both her and Jack, she naturally honed her bossy demeanor. She knew what she wanted and she went after it. She was just as comfortable hanging out with adults as she was talking with toddlers. Her humor and contagious laugh made the most memorable road trips. Every meal out resulted in someone getting a "birthday dessert" as /- 6 months was her rule of thumb. She knew quality. She would forego several years worth of birthday presents to get a MacBook. Her brother Jack asked Big Apple pizza to memorialize booth 2 in her name, at family gatherings she wanted to get there early as to not miss the garlic knots.
Olivia spent the last 2 months of her life in the care of the Shock Trauma and Neuro Critical Care ICUs at IMC hospital. We are incredibly grateful for the care and love provided by the doctors, nurses, technicians, and respiratory therapists. Olivia was able to save and enhance many lives with her final gift of organ and tissue donation. She was able to donate her kidneys, liver, eyes, heart, and skin.
Olivia's squad was a positive inspiration throughout her hospital stay.
Olivia is survived by her parents, Mom Jen (Andrew), Dad Scott (Cindy); siblings Jack, Mathew, Cameron, Kelsie, Michael, Brian (Amber) and MaKayla (Quinton); Grandparents James and June Rodgerson, Pam and Dave Copier, Steve and Laura Bateson, Grandma Sally Swain, Carolyn and Steve Brierley, George and Julie Bachman; Great Grand Parents Ron and Christie Cluff and Evah Bigler.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, August 25 at 10 am with an open house following until 2 pm at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, Utah.
