Norma Miller

"Born to Cook"

Born at home on Armistice Day, November 11, 1927, Norma was a peacemaker all of her life. She passed away, peacefully, at her daughter's home on December 22, 2018, at age 91. She had a good, long life overcoming many trials with faith, courage and optimism.

Norma grew up on a dairy farm near Grantsville, Utah. She was the 7th of 10 children of Stephen and Maggie Higley. She helped her brother milk the cows and he taught her to drive. Norma loved school and graduated at the top of her class. Then she moved to Salt Lake to work and she met Rulon at her first job. They were married August 9, 1948 in the Logan Temple. This happy marriage lasted 68 years until Rulon's death in 2016.

Norma and Rulon welcomed three children into their family, Marilyn, Scott and Gary. They had a stillborn daughter, Kathy, and three miscarriages which were a great loss; perhaps this is why they invited so many people to their family gatherings. They loved hosting parties for friends and family. Everyone was welcome for Sunday dinners. The home cooking was always great. Norma said she was 'born to cook.'

Rulon and Norma enjoyed many vacations, large and small, and included as many people as could go. Rain or shine, they always had a great time and they always went to church on vacation when they could.

Norma loved being active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and she served in many different callings. She made it a point to practice what she preached and endured to the end.

Norma is survived by Marilyn and Gary; daughter-in-law, Terri Miller; nine beautiful grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a son, Scott.
