Nina Dillenbeck Shirley Andersen, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, July 18, 2016. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. She was an avid fisherwoman and could catch fish when no one else could. She loved to fish, camp, go 4-wheeling, be with her family, and play poker and slot machines.
Nina was born in Salt Lake City to Lillian Fauntella Cahoon and Marion Arthur Dillenbeck on March 12, 1923. She graduated from Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California. She married Ernest Conway Shirley on September 21, 1941. She contributed to the World War II effort, while her husband was overseas, by being a riveter on air planes in the Howard Hughes Aircraft Plant in Los Angeles. Nina and Ernie had two children: Jeanne Ilene Shirley (Leonard Sperry) and Marion Tom Shirley. They were divorced on June 29, 1961. During this period in her life she became a beautician by trade and learned to be an independent woman before it was in vogue.
Nina married Dell William Andersen on March 31, 1968. This added three more children to her family: Joan (Russell Gray), Kay (Elwood Zaugg) and Dell William Andersen, Jr. (Charlotte) and some grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Carolyn Dean Talbot, two children, three step-children, nineteen grandchildren - Lisa, Jennifer, Christine, Micah, Alex (deceased), Kaitlyn, Kelly, Byron, Eric, Brent, Carl, Glinda, Collette, Spencer, Dawnelle, Brandon, Preston, Alison, Nathan and Jason, and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, two sisters and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, at 11 a.m. in the Sandy Hills Ward, 1475 East 8600 South, with a viewing one hour prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
