Nidia Elsa McCray sadly passed away at age 84 on August 31, 2022, in Bountiful UT

Nidia migrated from Montevideo Uruguay with her family to Newark New Jersey in 1969, moved to Salt Lake City Utah in 1977. Nidia Became very active in the Latino community by bringing the Uruguayan Culture to the State of Utah becoming one of the first dance instructors of Ballet Folklorico De las Americas in 1979. She had a passion to help others and was CNA certified. She passed down the legacy of our cultural to her grandchildren so they can continue her passion of expression through dance down to future generations, Nidia always carried a lively spirit, she loved to travel. Her favorite hobbies were Dancing, roller skating, skiing, playing the piano and drums and watching scary movies. she loved life, and she lived life to the fullest. She had a way of making people feel good, Nidia was a people magnet with her friendly smile and bright personality.
She is survived by Her Daughter Giselle Cornejo and Son Daniel Calda, Grand Children: Stephanie Alejandra Cornejo, Shantel Idelsy Cornejo, Nicole Fabiana Cornejo, Austun Lee Calda, Matt Tapoof. Great Grand Children: Izaiah Ellis Cornejo-Valdez, Nixon David- Santiago Stoddard, Laycee Renelyn Calda, Brooklynn Zabrina Calda. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband John McCray, Mother Elsa Luz Rodriguez, Father Victor Martirena, Grandmother Julia Rodriguez Luz (La vieja Julia), Grandfather Ramon Luz, Uncle Santiago Luz.
She will be truly missed by many. RIP Abuelita Nidia

Nidia emigró de Montevideo, Uruguay con su familia a Newark New Jersey en 1969. Luego se mudó a Salt Lake City, Utah en 1977. Nidia se volvió muy activa en la comunidad latina al traer la cultura uruguaya al Estado de Utah convirtiéndose en una de las primeras instructoras de danza del Ballet Folklórico de las Américas en 1979. Tenía mucha compasión por ayudar a los demás y estaba certificada por la CNA. Ella transmitió su cultura a sus nietos para que puedan continuar su pasión de expresión a través de la danza a las generaciones futuras. Nidia siempre llevaba un espíritu animado y era la vida de la fiesta. ¡Le encantaba viajar y le encantaba Disneyland! Sus pasatiempos favoritos eran bailar, patinar sobre ruedas, esquiar, tocar el piano y la batería, y ver películas de miedo. Amaba la vida y la vivía al máximo. Ella tenía una manera de hacer que la gente se sintiera bien. Nidia era un imán para la gente con su sonrisa amistosa y su personalidad brillante.
Le sobreviven su hija Giselle Cornejo y su hijo Daniel Calda, nietos: Stephanie Alejandra Cornejo, Shantel Idelsy Cornejo, Nicole Fabiana Cornejo, Austun Lee Calda, Matt Tapoof. Bisnietos: Izaiah Ellis Cornejo- Valdez, Nixon David- Santiago Stoddard, Laycee Renelyn Calda, Brooklynn Zabrina Calda. Fue precedida en la muerte por su ex esposo John McCray, su madre Elsa Luz Rodríguez, su padre Víctor Martirena, su abuela Julia Rodríguez Luz (La vieja Julia), su abuelo Ramón Luz, su tío Santiago Luz.
Ella será realmente extrañada por muchos. RIP Abuelita Nidia
