Nelson Orlando Romero

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, Nelson Orlando Romero (Nellie) passed away Saturday, April 2, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Our dad was full of kindness, love and laughter and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Born November 23, 1930 to Rudolpho and Amelia Romero in New Mexico and had 12 wonderful brothers and sisters who he enjoyed many meals with, competitive games of golf and bowling, and dances with. Nelson served our country in the US Air Force/Army.

Our dad was a determined man, who was always thinking and planning ahead. He taught us many life lessons - the most important being family, faith and work ethic. He had a passion for golf and bowling, even picking up odd jobs at the golf course and bowling alley to spend more time playing the sports he loved. He achieved not only one hole-in-one, but two!

Nelson spent 35 years working at Kennecott alongside many of his brothers, brothers-in-law, and cherished friends. After retiring from Kennecott, he worked for Midvale City for another 15 years before finally retiring at the age of 72.

Nelson’s greatest love was his family. In 1951, Nelson married the love of his life, Ida Romero and spent 70 wonderful years with his sweetheart. Together, they raised 5 children Robert, Rachel, Jolene, Sharon, and Gary. Our dad passed along his love of golf and dancing to his children. Watching dad effortlessly lead our mom around a dance floor brought many smiles (and a few tears) to our eyes. We know he’s in heaven dancing with his daughter Jolene and waiting for the day he’ll dance with his bride again.

Nelson was also a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Midvale, UT and leaves behind a legacy of great faith and service.

Nelson is survived by his wife Ida Romero, and children Robert Romero, Rachel (Steve) Jenson, Sharon (Paul) Garcia, and Gary (Sophia) Romero, 12 grandchildren, 12½ great grandchildren, and many brothers and sisters that Dad loved dearly. He was preceded in death by parents Rudolpho and Amelia Romero, daughter Jolene Romero, daughter-in-law Kathy Romero, siblings Margaret Watzek, Joe Romero, Floyd Romero and Lee Romero, and many other beloved family members.

Special thanks to A+ Hospice and all the nurses and doctors that helped care for our dad.

A viewing will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 at St. Therese Catholic Church from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm, with a rosary to follow. Monday April 11th, a viewing will be held from 9:30 am - 10:30 am, followed by a eulogy at 10:30 am and a mass at 11:00 am.

We love you dad and hope you’re enjoying a round of golf with your brothers and dancing with Jolene!
