Passed away December 10, 2020 after over 100 years on this earth. Born March 23, 1920 in Granite Utah to Charles Ward and Elsie Fryer Despain. She was raised in Granite at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. She graduated from Jordan High School in 1937. She married Everett Alton Kunz August 23, 1940 in the Salt Lake City Temple. After their marriage they built a home in Sandy where four of their five children were born. They moved to Pocatello Idaho, back to Sandy where their fifth child was born. They then lived in Boise, Idaho and when they returned to Utah they moved to Murray. Everett passed away in 1988. She moved to Payson, Utah in 1993.
Nellie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she faithfully served in many positions. Her favorite calling was working with the Guide Patrol Boys. While doing this she earned the Silver Beaver Scouting Award which she cherished and was proud of this award the rest of her life. She was a temple worker in the Provo Temple for many years. She taught her family to love the Lord and taught us by her example and knowledge of true principles. The Kunz family participated in the Indian Placement Program and had the opportunity to have Evangeline Yazzie become a part of our family. She lived with us for 13 years as she went through school and is still part of our family.
She loved gardening and always had a yard full of beautiful flowers. She continued to work in her yard well into her 90's. She loved to watch sports on TV and could be found cheering for both BYU and Utah and felt bad for the one that lost. She also loved watching the Jazz.
Nellie lived a life of service. She was always taking care of others and put their needs before hers. She took care of her parents, in-laws, daughter and grandchildren. Even until the end of her life at the assisted living facility, she was still helping to take care of others. She was very generous with her time and her means. She taught her children and grandchildren to do the same.
She is survived by four of her children; Lael and Dave Ehlers, Draper Utah; Robert and Janis Kunz, Orem, Utah; Lyle Kunz, West Jordan, Utah; RaNel and Randy Webster, Payson, Utah; 16 Grandchildren, 70 Great Grandchildren and 15 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Everett, her daughter JoAn Burk, Daughter-in-law Sandy Kunz, Son-In-Law John Askew and 3 granddaughters, Tina Nelson, Amy Askew Bishop and Julie Askew.
