Nancy Whitlock Sheriff

Our mother, Nancy Whitlock Sheriff, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2023. Nancy Whitlock Sheriff was born on September 20, 1942, to Hugh Brakebill and Senja Heikkila and was eventually adopted by Rulon and Idona Whitlock. Our Mom loved her family very much. She always wanted to spend time with the family and was most relaxed seeing her family enjoy themselves. Our families fondest memories were camping at Fish Lake where we would go for family walks in the woods, fish together, and sit by the campfire and talk. We talked about the stars, our great grandparents, how many fish we caught, and riding the motorcycle.

Mom met the love of her life, John Mayland Sheriff, in grade school. Dad used to yank on her braid and tease her that he would beat her home. Mom and Dad spent 50 years plus together before Dad passed in November 2012.

If you asked anyone in our family about Mom, the main response you’d get is that she was full of spice and fire, and wasn’t afraid to show it either. She loved her family, but not in the way most people do. She loved hard, was a tough woman, and helped create a strong foundation for our family. We will miss her.

Mom is survived by Johnette (Wayne) Margetts, Chad (Tandi) Sheriff, Layne (Stephanie) Sheriff, and Mont (Kim) Sheriff and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mom is preceded in death by her husband, John Sheriff, parents, Rulon and Idona Whitlock, and her sister Vondell Slaughter. Private services will be held for Nancy, interment at Sandy City Cemetery.
