Nancy McKane: Last Call

At 3 minutes before midnight, December 31, 2024, Nancy McKane left us to join her mother, father, brother and sisters in heaven.

Never one who wanted to leave a gathering until the very end, our mom and wife of Robert McKane hung on until the very end, battling a whole host of physical ailments.

But ultimately, her small body simply gave out.

Anyone who met or knew Nanny can attest that although she was small in stature, Nanny usually left a large and lasting impression!

Born and raised into a family of six in Buffalo, New York, Nancy‘s life began in earnest when she met Robert McKane as a teenager.

A few years later, they were married and their love story of more than six decades began.

After Bob completed his two year enlistment in the US Army, they bought a home in Cheektowaga, New York and started a family.

First was Scott, followed by Jeff and finally Stacy, rounding out the family of five.

There were a lot of laughs and a lot of love in that home and a countless good times with the cousins…the children of Nancy‘s sisters, Pat and Lana.

As Robert’s career flourished as VP of sales for Kaufman‘s bakery, Nanny was right there by his side, essentially his “wing woman”, accompanying him on the multitude of social and sales events he attended as part of his job.

On a personal level, Nanny and Bob‘s lives were deeply enriched by a 30+ year friendship with Rose Bunz and Richard Crumrine.

“Bob & Nance, Dick & Rose” were a fun, fearsome foursome! Whether it was hanging out with other friends in Buffalo or traveling together all across the country, having amazing adventures no matter where they wound up.

Along the way, Nanny endured multiple physical ailments, including Crohn’s, colitis and lupus.

But through it all she kept on going.

And when the children grew up and moved out west Nanny and Bob followed, settling in Draper, Utah.

She cherished the time spent with her grandchildren, but as the years went by the socializing slowed down and she stayed closer to home.

A significant fall just after her 84th birthday led to hospitalizations and ultimately admittance into a Senior care center.

As difficult as it was for her after the fall, we are all grateful to have had four months of essentially bonus time with her before last call on New Year’s Eve.

Nanny leaves behind her loving husband of 64 years Robert, children Scott McKane and his wife Cristina, Jeff Mckane and his wife Holly and daughter Stacy.

Also Grandchildren; Jack, Megan, Grace, Bella, Gabriela, Lucas and Alexandra.

Like all of us, Nancy McKane wasn’t perfect, but she was “Perfectly Nanny.”

We want to give our sincere thanks to the staff at Beacon Crest Senior Living in Draper, Utah for helping mom in her transition to the next realm.

And special recognition to Sofia Long from Inspiration Home Health and Hospice.

Her brief but critical interaction with mom and our family was a godsend.

A Catholic Rosary and Mass will take place at St. John the Baptist Church in Draper, 11 AM, Thursday, January 16, followed by a reception at Roberts condo complex at 1 PM. (We appreciate all your love, prayers and support and in lieu of flowers, if you want to make a donation to a local animal shelter in her name, that would be awesome!)
