Myrtis Stephensen

Myrtis Nunley Stephensen age 94, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Moroni, Utah on January 4, 1924 to Artie Johana Nielsen and Alfred Lee Nunley. She grew up and attended school in Moroni and graduated from Moroni High School. She was very close to her grandma Jenny and worked with her in the cafe and store. As a teenager she spent the summers at Park City, Utah and worked at Kimball Junction.

She met the love of her life Meril Stephensen, at Joy Land, an open-air dance hall in Moroni. The things that attracted her to him were his good looks, personality and he was so nice to her. He proposed after 3 months of dating and they were married March 15, 1946 at Levan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on July 16, 1963.

They made their home in Levan for the next 60 years and were blessed with 6 children, who learned much from their parent's great examples.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings and had a strong testimony of the gospel.

Myrt was a fabulous cook and provided countless meals and treats to family, friends and those in need. She enjoyed making chocolates, canning and baking. She kept a very nice yard and loved to sit outside and enjoy the flowers and plants. She also enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Everyone was welcome in her home and she loved spending time with her family and friends. She especially liked her grandchildren to visit her.

Gone but not forgotten, she lives on in all of us whose hearts she touched, taught and loved. We will love her forever and throughout eternity.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 sisters and 4 brothers, grandson-in-law, Gordon, and step great grandson Tildon.

She is survived by brother Reed (Evelyn) Nunley, sisters-in-law, Ruby Nunley, Florence Nunley and Flossy Anderson, children, Jerry (Cindy) Stephensen, Marilyn (Jerry) Mangelson, Carolyn (Mike) Royce, Ned Stephensen all of Levan, LaRee (Bart) Wankier, Don (Karen) Stephensen of Nephi. 22 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and one on the way.
