Moonyeen Hettrick

Moonyeen Newman Hettrick peacefully departed on July 22, 2023. She was born on May 15, 1939, in Murray, Utah, the youngest of four children to Thomas William Newman and Desna Gwendolyn Madsen Newman. Her formative years were spent with her family in Riverton, Utah. Moonyeen graduated from Jordan High School and the University of Utah. In 1961, she married her college sweetheart Clyde Marlin Hettrick, Jr. Together, they had two children, Clyde Marlin “CM” Hettrick, III and Gaye Hettrick. They were also blessed with two grandsons, Clyde Marlin “Cian” Hettrick, IV and Darragh Robert Hettrick. Throughout their lives, they resided in Culver City, California, Idaho Falls, Idaho, as well as Midvale and Sandy, Utah. Moonyeen was a cherished aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

For many years, Moonyeen taught history at Mt. Jordan Middle School, and even after retiring, she continued to serve as a substitute teacher. She had an insatiable love for reading and was well-versed in a variety of subjects. Her husband Clyde often remarked on her brilliance.

Moonyeen was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her talents as a seamstress, cook, homemaker, and gardener were admired by many. She delighted in knitting beautiful clothing items, particularly the precious baby sweaters she crafted for newborns in her extended family. She and Clyde shared a passion for home remodeling, turning their houses into wonderful homes. Moonyeen also dabbled in stained glass artistry, creating stunning pieces. In her later years, she embarked on many adventures across the globe alongside her daughter Gaye.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 62 years, her daughter Gaye, her grandsons Cian and Darragh, and a sister-in-law, Maryann Newman, as well as many nieces and nephews whose lives she deeply influenced. Moonyeen was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Des Newman, her son Clyde Marlin “CM” Hettrick, III, her sister Carol Bartholomew and Carol’s husband John, her two brothers Maury and Elmer Newman, as well as Maury’s wife Bonnie. Also preceding her were Clyde Jr’s parents, Clyde Sr and Anne Hettrick, and two sisters Shirley Bowen and Barbara “Bobbie” Wheatley.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate caregivers and staff at Escalante at Willowcreek Assisted Living for their exceptional care during Moonyeen's recent health struggles. Moonyeen and Clyde’s daughter Gaye provided unwavering support to her parents throughout their lives, especially in their later years.

As we mourn her passing, we cherish the precious memories of this remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you donate to your favorite charity in Moonyeen’s name.
