Michael Edward Sloan

Michael Edward Sloan, son of J. Stafford Sloan and Albertine Hartvigsen Sloan, passed from this life on November 21, 2014, from natural causes. Mike was born on March 13, 1947, in Salt Lake City. He loved the Avenues, where he grew up. He loved playing tennis, softball, racket ball, basketball, and other sports. He completed a mission for the LDS Church to Austria from 1966-68, and always had a fondness for Austria and the friends he made at that time. He worked at LDS Hospital for a time after his mission, where he made cherished lifetime friends. He�graduated from the University of Utah and began his life's career as an insurance and investments professional. He had a life-long love of learning, and pursued education in many forms, including in his professional field. He also loved collecting Church books, and appreciated good music. He served many Church priesthood assignments on ward and stake levels, and loved teaching Sunday School. Mike married Iris McKinlay on April 17, 1974, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised eight children: Melissa, Melanie Kitterman (Matt), Marianne Knight (Jesse), Michael, Daniel, Steven, Kathryn, and Shawn (Kali). He leaves behind his wife, children, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John. He valued his many friends and associates, and loved being Uncle Mike to his many nieces and nephews. He loved his family. He had a great sense of humor, and was a big man with a big heart. He will be greatly missed. Funeral�services will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, at 12:00 PM at the Mt. Jordan 2nd Ward, 300 E. 9300 So. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until 11:30, prior to services. Burial will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. A Michael E. Sloan memorial fund has been set up at America First Credit Union, and donations may be made at any branch. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at aspenfh.com.
