Merrill Deverl Yates passed away peacefully on September 9, 2017 at the age of 93. He was born April 4, 1924 to John Edwin and Ellen (Houghton) Yates in Murray, Utah. He grew up in West Jordan then moved to Midvale, Utah where he lived the rest of his life. He married Jean Middleton on November 14, 1946. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on October 24, 1962. Merrill was a High Priest in the LDS Church. He worked a full-time job from the time he was 16 years old. He started working for Interstate Brick in 1943 at the age of 19. He was there for 43 years, retiring at the age of 62. He was the top man on the seniority list for his last 7 years. He was an avid BYU fan and he and Jean were members of the Cougar Club for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Jean Middleton Yates.
He is survived by his daughters: Pauline (Doug) Merrill, Connie (Scott) Helm; sons: Jay Yates, Steven (Marci) Yates, Kevin (Julie) Yates; 13 Grandchildren, 34 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; sister, Hope. He was also preceded in death by one Grandson and two Great Grandsons and 4 brothers and 8 sisters.
Funeral services celebrating Merrill's life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State, Midvale, Utah. Friends and Family are welcome to attend a viewing prior to the service from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
