The world is somehow less today, leaving us with full hearts and grateful spirits that we were fortunate to share our lives with him.
Merlin Samuel Bodell passed away at home November 5, 2015 in St. George, Utah at the age of 85. He was born June 25, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Samuel Colombus Bodell and Lydia Payne Bodell. He graduated from Georgetown High School (Idaho) in 1948. After high school, Merlin joined the Navy and spent two years serving the country he loved. He married Marjorie Erickson January 19, 1951. Together they raised 4 children and had 49 years together before they eventually divorced. Merlin met Christel (Chris) Phillips in 2003 and they married and enjoyed the last 12 years together.
Merlin loved and appreciated this life, and lived every moment to the fullest. He cheated death many times over because he was just enjoying it here too much to go. He had a happy, optimistic personality and was loved by all who knew him. The family always marveled that no matter where they went, Dad always ran into someone he knew. He loved to have fun and always made the best of whatever situation he was in. He had a creative, industrious mind and loved to build things. He was always able to master whatever he took on. He loved golfing, camping, fishing, boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, and everything outdoors. He loved the beautiful world we live in, appreciating and marveling in it to the very end. He was always open to a game of Hand and Foot.
Merlin loved his family deeply, and cherished all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who all have many fun memories with him.
He is survived by his wife Chris, sons Wade (Pam) Bodell, Lane (Michelle) Bodell, and daughter Peggy (Brian) Templin, sisters Shirleen Johnstun, Carol Burgon and Glenna Harmon, along with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, first wife Marjorie, son Neal Bodell, brother Jack Bodell and grandson Stuart Bodell.
A family funeral will be held Saturday, November 14.
