Another decorated and honored Korean Veteran has returned home. Melvin Jay Withers, 85, passed away June 9, 2017 in Riverton, Utah. Mel was born June 10, 1931 in Draper, Utah to Richard Thomas and Annie Thompson Withers.
Mel married Beverly May Ostler May 10, 1952. She preceded him in death May 17, 2002.
Mel attended Jordan High School in Sandy, Utah. He worked many years at Peterson's Market and was co-owner of Utah Fasteners.
He is survived by his 6 children Rick (Shauna), Randy (Lynette), Rusty, Cindy (Scott), Connie (Kevin), and Kristie. 24 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and 2 more on the way.
He was also preceded in death by J.C. Sorensen (granddaughter) and Teresa Ann Mortensen Withers (daughter-in-law).
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 16, at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State St., Midvale, UT, with viewings at the same location on Thursday from 6-8 pm and Friday from 9:45-10:45 am. Interment at the Larkin Sunset Cemetery, 1955 E. 10600 S. Sandy, UT.
Mel did not retreat. He advanced in another direction.
