Melvin J. Schulte, age 71, of Sandy, Utah passed away suddenly on April 12, 2018. Mel was the oldest of nine children. He was born Dec. 18, 1946 to William F. Schulte and Paula T. Wubben Schulte in Yankton, South Dakota. They later moved to Midvale, Utah. Mel graduated from Judge Memorial High School, Class of '65, and later served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He married Jan "Kellie" Denlinger on June 20, 1970. They had a son, Daniel Schulte, and a daughter, Kellyann M. Schulte. Mel and Kellie loved animals, especially their Alaskan Malamutes that he would very often show. Mel was a fun, loving, and occasionally crazy ole' man who had a love for life and did his best to enjoy each day.
He loved his grandsons, Scott J. Young and Kandyn J. Young, and gave them many lessons in life, along with lots of memories. He enjoyed getting down on the dance floor, playing poker, and bargain shopping (he always was looking for a deal.) He had a lot of laughs, many due to his inappropriate sense of humor.
Mel was a man that never met a stranger and always had a good story to tell. He has touched and changed many lives, and will be missed and remembered by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, wife, and brother, LeRoy. He is survived by his remaining sibling, daughter, grandsons, and many friends.
Special thanks to his "Bar Named Sue" friends and family.
His viewing will be at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, on Friday, April 20th from 6-8 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held at "A Bar Named Sue" at 8136 S. State St. on Saturday at 10 a.m.
