Maxine (Mickey) Pearson

August 29, 1925 — April 25, 2021

Maxine (Mickey) Pearson

Maxine (95) was born August 29, 1925. She was a petite, feisty, independent woman who was bound and determined to remain in her home until the end. On April 25, 2021, she accomplished that goal. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Well done, Mom, we are so happy you made that wish a reality.

Maxine was born and raised in Murray, Utah by loving parents Joseph T. Johnson and Merelda (Berger) Johnson. She married Evan J. Pearson on March 20, 1948, and they were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. They enjoyed 54 years of dancing, bowling, and golfing together, especially with "The Group" (Rod & LaRae, Nolan & Merilyn, Clive & June).  Mickey was especially close to her four sisters, who relied on one another after their mother died at an early age.

Mom retired from the U of U, where she served as Admin Asst to the ROTC Officer in Command.  Her association with the young men and women of the ROTC gave Maxine a great deal of pride and satisfaction. She was able to go on river running trips and scale buildings via a rappel rope. She was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Little League Baseball, American Legion Baseball (chaperoning was her favorite activity) and served as PTA President, a member of the Midvale Community Development Council and fulfilled a variety of LDS Church callings. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, including lifelong Murray High classmates, and her Treehouse water aerobics gang. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When her husband gloated about his winning two landscaping awards in their Sandy City quadrant, Maxine followed-up his victories by winning her own award the year after her husband died (2002).  Maxine was an avid skier, participating well into her 80's, allowing her to ski free at her favorite resort, Brighton. She loved life and kept busy and engaged right to the end.

She is survived by two sons, Joel (Susan) Pearson and Jace (Dana) Pearson, one sister, Sherry (David) Omans, five grandchildren Mike (Lisa) Pearson, Derek (Jessica) Pearson, Mandy (Scott) Howick, Trevor Pearson, Dan Pearson, six step grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband Evan, daughter Jan Jenkins, sisters Val (Bill) Lewis, JoeAnn (Don) Brown, Dorothy (Richard) Clawson and two brothers Joseph and Keith who passed in early childhood.

Funeral and Celebration services will be held on Saturday, May 1 at the LDS Hidden Oaks Ward, 11755 South 2000 East, Sandy, Utah at 11:00 am.  A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Online live streaming is available at the following Zoom link: https://zoom.us/j/95993725102

The family would like to thank all her dear friends, neighbors, ward members and hospice workers who offered dedicated service, love and support. Today we celebrate you Mom, to a full life, well lived. Thank you for your example. We love you forever.
