Maurine Vickers passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2018. She was born on February 16, 1920, to William Alvin Coon and Bernice Spilsbury in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the third of five children, with one brother and three sisters.
Maurine graduated from high school in Mexico and attended Brigham Young University, where she studied teacher training. She taught fifth grade in Fountain Green, Utah, where she was introduced to Joseph (Jay) Sells Vickers. Maurine and Jay were married on June 10, 1949, in the Mesa Temple. They made their first home in Nephi. Jay was a farmer and worked at Nephi Rubber Products. He taught mom to drive a tractor and the truck. Maurine worked as a cook at the old hospital.
Maurine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women. She served as a temple worker in the Manti Temple for seventeen years, and attended the temple weekly. Maurine liked to read, travel, quilting, and knitting. She enjoyed getting her hair done weekly, Senior Citizens activities, and playing games with her friends.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Jay, her parents and brother and sisters, and a grandchild, Billy Vickers.
Maurine is survived by her children, Devon (Sheri) Vickers, Marilyn (Grant) White, Charlotte (Dick) Burnett, Colleen (Kirt) Wilkinson, Brad (Terrie) Vickers, Randall (Lorilyn) Vickers; twenty-two grandchildren and sixty-three great grandchildren, including three which will be born this year.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018, at 11:30 a.m. at the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 North 400 East in Nephi. Viewings will be held Sunday, March 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening, at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North in Nephi; and Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Vine Bluff Cemetery.
