Our Aunt Mary Valdez passed away on January 14, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on May 13, 1920 at home to Vincente Valdez and Juanita Medina in Mack, Colorado just west of Grand Junction. She was the 5th of 13 children. Her family then moved to Bingham Canyon where she graduated from Bingham High School.
She worked at a munitions plant in Clearfield, Utah, during World War II. For many years, she was a housekeeper for area priests Father LaBranche and Father Warner Lambert.
She is survived by her sisters Christine Allen, Frances Ortega, Mickey Trujillo (Ortega) and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lawrence, Nicholas, Louis, Jimmy, Patrick Ortega, and sisters Katherine Chavez (Valdez), Angela Ortega, Anita Vigil (Ortega) and Vivian Trageser (Ortega).
She will be greatly missed by many family members. Many thanks to the St. Joseph Villa staff and also to the staff at the Symbii Hospice. And many thanks to David and Lydia Chavez who took care of Aunt Mary's well being for many years as well as other family members who visited her often.
Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 22, 2018 at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph's Villa, 451 Bishop Federal Lane, Salt Lake City. Burial will be held in Grand Junction, Colorado at a later date.
