Mary Rodgers Smith, 75, of Mona, Utah passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021 from a complication with her heart. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mary, the daughter of William Rodgers and Mary Major Rodgers was born in Johnstone, Scotland on April 28, 1946. She was the first of three children.
Mary is a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. While living in Glasgow, Scotland she met a handsome missionary named David Smith. He asked if he could write her upon his returning home. They exchanged letters and Mary decided to visit the USA and after a short time dating she opted to not return to Scotland. She knew she wanted to marry and start a family with David. Mary was sealed to David Bennett Smith on July 26, 1968 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together they resided in Gilbert, Arizona; Las Vegas Nevada; Payson, Utah; Fruita, Colorado; Richfield, Utah; and Mona, Utah. They have a beautiful love story. Mary was a strong and brave young lady as she navigated a new life in a new country. She was an excellent homemaker and wonderful mother. She kept a beautiful clean home and was an excellent cook. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent a life of serving others, especially her family.
Mary dedicated her life to loving and serving her family. She always put her husband and her children before herself. She was always looking for opportunities to serve and help people. Her hobbies included reading and shopping. She had an amazing sense of style. She was very set in her ways and definitely had her circle of people. She had a weekly hair appointment and we all knew not to schedule anything of importance on a Friday morning. She was stubborn and feisty all while being kind and funny. She had the most amazing sense of humor. She was affectionately known as "Fama Mary" to her grandkids. She made sure she told them she loved them every time she saw them. They all thought they were her favorite grandchild. Every single grandkid wanted to go to "Fama Mary's" house for Christmas. Her home was always inviting and her family gravitated to the special feeling that resided there. Mary will be remembered as a kind person who loved to be with her family. She was the most happy when she was surrounded by her family. She was the center of our universe and she will be missed by all who knew her and loved her.
Mary is survived by her husband, David Bennett Smith; her 6 children: Debbie (John) Welburn, Rob (Annai) Smith, Curtis (Mandi) Smith, Nicole (BJ) Hoaldridge, Davey (Ashley) Smith, and Steve (Lindsey) Smith; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; 2 siblings: Helen (Harry) Burnside and John Rodgers. Both her siblings and their families reside in Scotland. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved granddaughter, Baylee Brooke Hoaldridge. Mary had a special relationship with Baylee and we can only imagine the reunion that took place.
