Mary Ellen Boss Ivory passed away peacefully, in a room overflowing with family, on July 13, 2023. “Petie” was born June 13, 1951 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma (in the middle of a tornado, per Mary) to Kenneth Boss and Lucille Tolley. She grew up in Nephi, Utah and was the oldest of 7 children.
Mary met and married the love of her life, Ronald L Ivory, January 20, 1967 in Nephi, Utah and later sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple. She and Ron built a beautiful home and life in Fountain Green with their four sons. Everyone always felt welcome in the Ivory home.
Mary helped supplement their young family’s income by selling Avon and advanced quickly to become a Regional Manager. She found joy in visiting with all the customers she met. After her children were raised, Mary worked alongside her husband at Ivory Financial, a staple in Sanpete County, for over 20 years. When she wasn’t preparing taxes, Mary enjoyed spending her days with the students of Fountain Green Elementary School as a substitute teacher.
Mary was a faithful and proud Lions Club member. She served as District Governor, President, Secretary, and Tail Twister. You could catch her hiding Easter Eggs for the city hunt, sacking candy for Santa Claus, and started the first Trunk- or-Treat in Fountain Green that is still attended by hundreds of children.
Mary was the grandma every child dreamed of having. She showed up to every sports game, graduation, and performance and was famous for her loud cheering. She couldn’t say no to her grandchildren and would frequently take them on adventures across the state or cook their favorite dish.
Mary was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and bore her testimony often. Her favorite calling was nursery leader because she loved to rock and snuggle the babies.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her son Brian Ivory, grandson Kyle Ivory, sisters Carol Ballard and Linda Butler, and brother Clay Boss.
She is survived by her devoted husband Ronald of Fountain Green, sons Ronald R Ivory (Connie) of Fountain Green, Jerime Ivory (Abby) of Fountain Green, and Michael Ivory (Alexis) of Scenic, Arizona, brother Craig Boss, sisters Patty Boss and Walline Broadhead, twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. She is very proud of her large posterity and unapologetically loved them all immensely.
A viewing will be held Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Friday, July 21, 2023 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with funeral services starting at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 151 South 200 West in Fountain Green.
