Mary Elizabeth Dougherty Cox, born September 27, 1924, passed away peacefully in her home, with her husband, youngest son, and daughter-in-law by her side on April 14, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew McNeil Dougherty and Sarah Elizabeth Turnbull Dougherty, her stepmother Iona Jones Dougherty, her sister, Darlene Fishler and her great granddaughter, Destiny Cox.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ray Max Cox, six children, Walter and Gracie Cox, Sharon and Russ Cleveland, Virginia and Jim Nicholes, Joseph and Shawn Cox, Ali and Michael Overton, Jesse and Dee Cox, and stepson, Darold and Cheryn Cox; 24 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; three siblings, Mike and Irene Dougherty, Carla and Lyle Tucker, and June and Tim Pay.
Mary was always very friendly and outgoing. At the age of 17, Mary was the 1st Labor Day Queen of Carbon County, Utah. She loved to bowl and participated in some bowling leagues. Mary loved dancing, especially with her husband, Ray. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many different callings. Mary was a member of the Edgemont Ladies Lion's Club and served as the president for a time; she was a member of the Carbonite Ladies. She held a realtor license, worked as an office manager/medical assistant for the late Dr. Wendell Vance, the late Dr. Doran Porter, and she also worked at Central Utah Foot Clinic.
Mary was a lovely lady with the most beautiful smile and gorgeous blue eyes. She always welcomed people into her home with a smile and a home cooked meal. She was a friend to all and always willing to help anyone that may be in need. She loved her children and grandchildren, especially the babies. We loved her with all of our hearts and she will truly be missed.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20th at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State St., Midvale, UT. There will be a viewing Sunday, April 19th from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
