Mary Mitchell Olsen Anderson, 80, passed away from causes incident to age on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Silverado Care Center in Holladay. She was born February 10, 1936 in Salt Lake City to Maxwell Bernard Olsen and Sarah Mitchell Olsen. Mary grew up in the Sugar House area, graduating from South High School in 1954. She obtained her bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Utah in 1958 and taught second grade in Cedar City, Utah for one year before beginning a long career teaching early grade students in several schools in Granite and Jordan School Districts. She earned a master's degree in education from Brigham Young University in 1978. She was particularly effective in helping students develop math skills and become competent readers. She retired from Jordan School District in 1987.

A life-long active member of the LDS Church; Mary served a mission in northern England from June, 1963 to December, 1964. She served many years as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Jordan River temples where she enjoyed close relationships with her fellow workers. Mary married Monte Anderson on September 29, 1988. Monte was an ocularist who created remarkable prosthetic eyes and Mary assisted him in managing business affairs in his extensive practice.

Mary and Monte lived in Draper and South Jordan where they both worked in the Jordan River Temple. Monte passed away in July, 2005.

Mary is survived by her sisters Sally O. Barfuss (Joe) of Midvale and Louise O. Baird of Provo, her brother Maxwell Bernard Olsen Jr. (Elma) of American Fork, her sister-in-law O'Linn L. Olsen of Orem, and Monte's children: Heber Anderson, Trissa Pelesehka, and Alan Anderson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and Monte's grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her brother Joseph M. Olsen, brother-in-law James E. Baird, and Monte's son Robert Anderson.

Mary's family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of the Silverado Care Center for the compassionate and respectful care she has received during her residence there and particularly during her final days.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the Midvale First Ward chapel, 308 West 7500 South, Midvale. A viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. will be followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Lake Hills cemetery in Sandy.
