Heaven just gained our gentle giant. Marvin Irven Robbins, 86, peacefully passed on Monday, October 9, 2017 in Sandy, Utah of causes incident to age.
Marvin was born on April 8, 1931, in Twin Falls, Idaho. He was the second son of Lewis and Amelia Agnes (Kulik) Robbins. He was raised in Buhl, Idaho. He learned early how to farm, plow, weld, repair and build machinery, pick rocks, and anything else needed on the family farm. He was a master machinist. Anything anyone needed a machine for, he could build it.
Marvin married Violet Gurwell on April 18, 1953 in Buhl, Idaho. Together they had 3 sons. They were later divorced.
On May 18, 1973, Marvin married Rita Baker in Twin Falls, Idaho. Together they had a blended family of 9 children. They moved to Sandy, Utah later that same year, where they finished raising 4 of their children together. He loved us all as his own.
Marv was a master of all trades. He was a foundational rock in our family. When chaos was going on everywhere else, he was a silent presence that was always there, always loving, unexpectedly wise, and loyal to everyone. You could always count on his little bits of quirkiness, his infectious laugh, his calm demeanor. We loved his excitement at the simple joys in the world. He loved his trains, mustard sardines with crackers, rodeos, cinnamon rolls with bologna, milkshakes, chips and salsa, peanut clusters and popcorn. Most of all, he loved our mother.
Marv leaves behind his wife, Rita, and 8 children: Dan (Catherine) Robbins; Gary Robbins; Jim (Tina) Robbins; Kent (Cindy) Hamilton; Kim (Robert) Lott; Scott (Teresa) Hamilton; Tom (Judy) Hamilton; RaeAnna (Kim) Christensen; 44 grandchildren; and 88 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Alvin; a son, Robert Hamilton; a granddaughter, Lacey Christensen; and a great grandson, Tallin Elting.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, October 14, 2017, Crescent 7th LDS Chapel, 949 E. 10600 S. in Sandy. Viewing from 12:30 to 1:30 prior to services. Family will greet family and friends on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6 to 8 pm at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State in Midvale. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, UT.
