Surrounded by her family, Jean passed away gracefully in her home in Sandy, Utah on November 9, 2016.
Born on June 18, 1928 in Brigham City, Utah to John and Clara Shelby, Jean attended local schools and went on to graduate from BYU as an RN. Jean was employed at Cottonwood Hospital for 30 years.
Jean was an accomplished artist; many of her paintings are on display in area homes and offices. Jean and her husband, Ernie, owned and operated The Ski Inn Motel for many years. She also sold Real Estate and Insurance, wrote and directed programs for her church and PTA and founded the first Feline Club in Utah.
Jean married the love of her life, Ernest Edward Stafflund on March 7, 1947 and they had four children. Ernie preceded Jean in death as well as two sons, Brett and Russell.
Jean is survived by daughter, Valerie Burch, son, Shelby (Rachelle) Stafflund, three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, brother, Dave Shelby and sister, Helen Hunsaker.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the staff at Alta View Hospital and especially to the caregivers from Harmony Home Health and Hospice who unselfishly gave considerable amounts of loving care in Jean's final days.
At Jean's request, there will be no service; she will rest in peace eternally next to Ernie at Camp Williams. In lieu of flowers, please consider helping a mistreated animal.
