Marjorie Louise Grames

Marjorie Louise Grames, age 92, returned home to her loving earthly and heavenly parents on December 13, 2020. She was able to be at home and surrounded by so many people that loved her.

Marj was born on March 5, 1928 in Westford, Massachusetts. Her proud, loving, adoptive parents were Annie L. Erkins and Winslow J. Parker.

Marjorie had a wonderful childhood surrounded by family and friends. As a little girl in the 1930s she loved being in plays and dance recitals. She loved living on the east coast and was very involved with her community. Marj worked as a phone operator and then in banking for the rest of career. Marj was always a very classy person. She enjoyed looking her best for all occasions. We lovingly referred to her as "Sweet Marj" as she was truly beautiful inside and out.

From her childhood, Marj was always a spiritual person. She knew her Father in Heaven and trusted in Him. Because of this, Marj had the courage and bravery to stand up for what she thought was right and was an example to others throughout her entire life.

In 1993, while on vacation in Texas, Marj had a chance encounter with Latter-day Saint missionaries in a laundry mat. She agreed to have them send her a Book of Mormon when she got back home to Connecticut. Not long after, a couple of young elders showed up and began to teach her the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These teachings changed the course of her life. She fell in love with the restored Gospel, with her missionaries, and her ward. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1994 and, a year later, followed some of her missionaries back to Utah. In Utah, she was unofficially adopted as grandma to the Murphys and will forever remain part of their family. She was also the grandma to the Post and Harp families. Marj believed in 'found family' and both loved and claimed these families as her very own.

Marj served a mission herself just a few years after she joined the church. She served in the Tulsa, Oklahoma mission and, again, she made friendships that lasted the rest of her life.

Marj never was blessed with children of her own but adopted every child that she knew. She loved to shower them with gifts and praise. She married a few times looking for the right man, but finally found "the one" at the tender age of 80. Keith Orson Grames, at 85, was five years older and the man of her dreams. They were married for 10 wonderful years and shared much love. She passed away on what would have been their 13th wedding anniversary and we have no doubt he was there to greet her. With Keith as her husband, she gained the Grames family - including children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

All who new Marj, loved her. Connecting with people was one of her many talents. She could work her way into the heart of even the most reluctant - whether by looking at them with her big brown eyes, speaking with her quick-wit and humor, or giving with unmatched generosity. She was one special lady and will be missed terribly; however, we are excited for her to begin her next journey.

Marj is survived by many who loved her. If you knew her, she loved you. We wish to offer a special thanks to all those medical people at Riverton Hospital, Riverton Fire Department and CNS Nursing and Hospice who always made her feel like a princess.

We will be holding a casual viewing/funeral for Marj on December 19th at the Anderson & Goff Mortuary in Draper, Utah at 1:00 pm, followed directly by the interment.
