Marion Watko passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021 at the age of 76, after a short battle with cancer. Born in Logan, Utah on September 13, 1944 to Don Ray Gowers and Rula Yearsley Gowers, Marion attended Nephi schools and graduated valedictorian of her class in 1962. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from Brigham Young University and married Gary Watko on June 11, 1965 in the Manti Temple, later divorced.
She worked in the banking and mortgage lending industries most of her career in California, Arizona and Utah including positions of Teller, Computer Coder, Systems Analyst and Mortgage Banker, retiring in 2009. Her life was dedicated to serving others, raising three children, and working in various positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved being with children especially as a Primary Nursery worker where many young lives were enriched by her quiet, loving, and consistent manner. She enjoyed music and contributed a strong alto to her ward choirs and served many times as ward chorister. She made an annual trip to the Utah Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City and enjoyed many other cultural and musical events. From an early age she loved the outdoors and continued in later years to enjoy hiking and sightseeing in state and national parks as well as nearby Salt Creek Canyon and the Nebo Loop.
After retiring Marion moved back to Nephi, caring for her aging parents, and organizing family history stories and pictures. She loved studying the gospel of Jesus Christ and the history of the Church. Her greatest happiness was found in helping others.
Marion is survived by her children Scott (Cindi) Watko of South Jordan, Kari Brandi of South Jordan and Brian (April) Watko of Portland, Oregon, a brother, Clyde Gowers of South Weber, and a sister, Deltha (Todd) Nelson of Phoenix, and by ten grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Rula Y. Gowers, and her father Don Ray Gowers.
