Marilyn Madsen Johnson

Surrounded by family Marilyn Madsen Johnson peacefully passed March 14th, 2023.

She was the first child of Royal Andrew Madsen and Zella Mower Madsen, born June Fourth, 1933, in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

She was older sister to Charlotte Koski and Linda Cowart. She spent summers alternating weeks between the city pool across the street from her home and tending sheep in the mountains above Scofield.

She wed Jerrold Rasmussen and had five beloved children, Janet Riding, Elaine Jenson, Kristine Fleming, Jerry Lynn Rasmussen, and Randy Royal Rasmussen.

They lived in Midvale, Logan and settled in Sandy. While Jerrold was attending graduate school, she began her odyssey to see the globe by coordinating summer fellowships at Kalamazoo, Michigan and Syracuse, New York. She twice crossed the country in a truck and camper. She was a trekker later exploring six continents, and especially enjoying winter excursions to Hawaii.

She married second husband Elmer Johnson and was grateful to be second mother to his cherished daughters, Deann Sandage and Denise Snyder. They shared road trips traveling throughout the west. While driving they held left hands so she could steer and change gears with her right.

She was independent and determined earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in library science and nurturing young minds at Robert Frost and Copper Hills elementaries.

Midlife she decided she would become a skier spending most winter Saturdays in the Cottonwood canyons. She had three ski patrol toboggan trips off the mountain then recuperated and returned for more.

For decades, Friday evenings she competitively played Hand and Foot with her dear friends Beverly Bishop and Norma Bench.

She is grandmother to 16 children, great grandmother to 42, and great, great grandmother to eight. She adored them all relishing family functions and holiday events.
