Marilyn Hardcastle

Marilyn Dahl Hardcastle, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother returned to the loving arms of our Heavenly Father on June 19, 2016. She was a great example to all with her kindness, compassion, and loving spirit. She was born July 30, 1930 in Murray, Utah to Conrad and Reta (Cundick) Dahl.  Marilyn married her 'sweetheart' Robert H. Hardcastle on November 12, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple and from this day forward they were never apart.

She will be greatly missed by her five children, Roseann (David) Higham, Gordan (Krisan) Hardcastle, Sharon (Richard) Hartwell, Pauline (Randy) Garn, Carolyn (Brian) Myers; 20 grandchildren, and 47 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active and dedicated member of the LDS Church. She enjoyed serving in many LDS Church callings, which included chorister, ward organist, Relief Society President, counselor, teacher, Primary President, counselor, teacher, and visiting teacher. For many years she was a volunteer at Alta View Hospital in the Women Center.

Marilyn was a talented seamstress who taught herself the fine art of sewing on a treadle sewing machine. This brought about her sewing business where she made many beautiful wedding dresses and prom gowns. One young woman could not afford a wedding dress so Marilyn sewed the dress and would not accept any pay for it. She told the young woman that her wedding day is a girl's best day ever.

Marilyn was a rodeo 1st attendant for Salt Lake County and participated in barrel racing on her favorite horse named Clover.  Even before retirement, Marilyn and Bob traveled throughout the United States, including Alaska and Canada.

Marilyn crocheted many afghans for family members and small lap blankets for nursing homes located in the valley. Her talents continued as she was a great "4-H" leader and entered many items into the Utah State Fair where she received top ribbons for her fine work. During her lifetime she worked at Dayne's Music, Dell's Market, Jenkins Market, Sprouse Reitz, and as a Jordan School District Bus Driver.

Marilyn was very grateful to her dear husband, family members, and others who helped meet her needs near the end of her life.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah.  A viewing will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00-10:45. Interment will be held at the Sandy City Cemetery at 9000 South 700 East.
