Margaret (Meg) Henderson

Meg passed away on January 1, 2017 of natural causes at the age of 94. She was born Margaret Stark on November 7, 1922 to Leslie Webb Stark and Roxy Calder in Baker City, Oregon. She was the youngest of 5 siblings (4 girls and a boy): Marie, Eugene, Dorothy and Helen. She grew up in Baker City, Portland and Forest Grove, Oregon and became proficient in secretarial skills. She met her husband Lester Robbins Henderson (III) in Portland, Oregon and they were married July 3, 1943 in Wake County, North Carolina where Les was stationed with the United States Marine Corps. Meg supported Les through the war and then through engineering school at Oregon State University and continued to work as a secretary until retiring from Reed College in 1985. Meg and Les purchased a home in Southeast Portland, Oregon in 1954 and she lived there for 58 years until moving to Utah in 2012. She chose the nickname of Meg early in her married life. A longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), Meg was instrumental in the conversion of her husband. After 13 years of marriage they were sealed together for time-and-all-eternity and to their three sons, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple, October 10, 1956. They both served actively in the Portland Stake, Portland 3rd Ward and 7th Ward (later renamed the Arleta Ward) of the Church. Her husband Les passed away in 2002 after 59 years of marriage.

After the passing of her husband, Meg was instrumental as a loving matriarch in continuing the family traditions-organizing family reunions, family councils, and visiting children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and providing encouragement for the history and genealogical legacies of the family. Her independent spirit was an infectious and loving example to her family of the importance of life, and living it to the fullest, acknowledging her profound conviction that there is much yet to do on both sides of the veil.

Meg's descendants include her three sons, Robbin (Nancy) St. George, Utah, Gordon (Wileen) Mesa, Arizona, and Patrick (JaNae) Sandy, Utah, and 16 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren with numbers 45 and 46 on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband and two grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11 am with funeral services to follow at 12 pm at the LDS Meetinghouse located at 11777 South Willow Wood Drive (approx. 850 East) in Draper, Utah.

Graveside services and interment will be at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Portland, Oregon at 11 am on Monday, January 9, 2017. Meet at 10:45 am at the main building (Gate 9) to join the procession.

Many thanks to the Alta Ridge Facilities and Millcreek Hospice for the skilled and loving care given to Meg.
