Marcel “Chug” Saldivar

Chug passed away peacefully on June 13th 2024 at the age of 83. Chug was born on October 21st 1940 in Midvale, Utah to Crespin and Lucy Ontiveros-Saldivar. He was one of five brothers Crespin Jr., Julian, Paul and Raymond. He also had five sisters Gloria, Esther, Vicky, Patsy and Linda. He was also blessed with many adoring nieces and nephews.

For 33 years he delivered mail in the Midvale area. The people on his routes loved their “mailman”, as he delivered not just mail but smiles and goodwill. Many friendships were made during those 33 years.

An avid sportman, Chug tried skydiving three times. He also had whitewater rafting adventures in Idaho, Utah and a seven-day outing on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. His uncle James Ontiveros taught him how to play tennis, which he enjoyed playing for years.

His real passion was golfing. For over 50 years he could be found on the greens at Mountain View Golf Course. On several occasions he worked at the Arizona Open Golf Tournament with his uncle Mike Ontiveros. For years he coordinated outings for a group of friends to tournaments in Mesquite Nevada. Other golfing outings he enjoyed were to Spanish Bay, Spyglass Hill and Pebble Beach.

As a life-long practicing Catholic, Chug volunteered for over 20 years at the St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen. He was also a regular, assisting with the funeral lunches at St. Therese, where he was also a lector.

Anyone who was fortunate to know Chug knows that he was a man of strength, honesty and of endless giving. A good man among men.
