On May 25, 2015, Madelyn May Hancock Bodily was reunited with her husband, Lynn, when she passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 79.
Madelyn was born on April 16, 1936, in Ogden, Utah, to Edward Joseph and Magdalena Faulkner Hancock, Jr. She was the oldest of three girls.
Madelyn excelled at horsemanship, successfully competing in the Utah Rodeo circuit and serving as the Hooper, Utah Rodeo Queen in 1952. After graduating from Weber High School, Madelyn received a scholarship to attend Weber College, where she studied nursing.
Madelyn met Lynn H Bodily, her sweetheart of 57 years, in early 1951 when he was 16 years old and she just 15. After Lynn returned from an LDS mission to Hawaii, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 10, 1957, and were blessed with four children.
Madelyn worked as a nurse several times throughout her life, and lived in Utah, Kansas, Michigan, Argentina (a work assignment for Lynn from Ford Motor Company), Colorado, and Trinidad and Tobago (while serving a senior mission in the West Indies Mission).
In addition to her service as a missionary, Madelyn served in various positions of the LDS church as a teacher and a friend. A several-times bishop's wife, including in the Air Force Academy YSA ward, her "adopted" children number in the hundreds.
Madelyn is survived by sister Barbara, daughters Lynnette and Michele, son Jeff, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband, Lynn, parents, sister Jelaire, and daughter Janel.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8th, in the Washington Heights Cemetery.
Madelyn loved spending time with her family, her pet dogs, and getting her nails and hair done. She will be greatly missed. We love you too much!
