Lynn Owen Newton, age 86, passed away September 21, 2017 in Nephi, Utah. He was born December 3, 1930 in Mona, Utah to Eugene Claude and Ella Kay Newton.
Lynn was born the youngest of 6 kids and was raised in Mona, Utah where he spent his days playing, hunting, and fishing with his brothers. He joined the U.S. Army and honorably served in the Korean War. After returning from the war he married Aleen "Nick" Mattinson from Salem, Utah on April 25, 1953. Together they made their home in Mona and raised 3 children; Connie, Janna, and Bruce.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad, Dugway Proving Ground, and retired from the Nephi Rubber Plant. He enjoyed planting and working in his garden. He remained close with his brothers, together they continued to hunt, fish, and take daily drives to Goshen Canyon and Willow Creek. He loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite things was going out west or to the canyon on Sunday for a family picnic. He loved going to play Keno in Wendover or Mesquite, scratching off Lottery tickets, and he called in daily to check his Lottery numbers. He could often be found in his chair watching old movies.
He is survived by his wife, Nick; children, Connie (Joe) Wall; Janna (Rex) Behunin; Bruce (Connie) Newton; 10 grandkids and 15 great grandkids. Lynn is preceded in death by one sister and four brothers; sister, Mern Ulmer, brothers; Ervin, Wayne, Claude, and Lee Newton.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am Monday, September 25, 2017 at the Mona City Cemetery, Mona, Utah. Family and friends may call from 9:45-10:45 am Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi, Utah.
