On May 23, 2015 our beautiful, sweet mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lu Jean Hinchcliff Carver, passed away. After 92 years of faithfully serving her Savior, Jesus Christ, family, and fellow man, her selfless example is the heritage we will remember.
Lu Jean was born April 4, 1923 to Lester Grant and Adele Warner Hinchcliff in Ogden, Utah. She married Norman Elmer Carver July 1, 1944, and they were sealed two days later in the Logan LDS Temple on July 3, 1944. She earned Home Economics Education degrees from Weber State College and Utah State University, including her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. Along with being a wonderful wife and mother, Jean taught Home Economics at Hillcrest, Brighton, and Box Elder High Schools, as well as at Yakima Valley College in Yakima, Washington. She was instrumental in establishing the Head Start Program throughout the Columbia Basin. As a talented seamstress, cook, artist, and cellist, she influenced countless lives in Midvale, Tremonton, and Sandy, Utah as well as Yakima and Kennewick, Washington. In Yakima, Jean had the privilege to teach early morning Seminary. Norm and Jean served as full time missionaries in the Salt Lake City North Mission at the Ogden Tabernacle from 1985-1986. Jean also served as a church service missionary on Temple Square and at the Church History Museum from 1986 - 2003. After the death of her husband, Jean lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho where her generosity endeared her to many. She was especially excited to live next door to her sister, Karma Hinchcliff, who survives her. She is also survived by her six children and their spouses: Susan (John) Deans, Nancy (Bill) Judd, Pat (Dale) Madsen, Karma (Brent) Bateman, James (Anita) Carver, and Alan (Janet) Carver, 31 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Her husband, Norm, her parents, and her brother Grant Lester Hinchcliff, preceded her in death.
Funeral Services will be held at Goff Mortuary on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Viewings will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah, and on Saturday, May 30, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM.
Interment will be at the Plain City, Utah Cemetery at approximately 12:30 PM.
