Lois Faye Hatch Foster, age 97, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully December 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and service. Born October 21, 1927, in Bancroft, Idaho to Kenneth Reed and Miriam Delbridge Hatch. Lois grew up during the Great Depression, a time that shaped her resilience, creativity, and deep sense of family.
Her early years were marked by her vibrant spirit. She loved to tap dance and was the Queen of her senior year’s Green and Gold Ball. Her father and her siblings, Elsie Lea, twin brother Loel Kay and younger sister Francis fondly recalled her cheerful disposition and determination to make the best of every situation. After graduation from Rock Springs High School, she attended the University of Utah and returned home to work for Mountain Bell as a telephone operator. It was during this time she reunited with Arthur Foster, a World War II Veteran, at a dance.
Their romance blossomed and they were married on June 12, 1948. They moved to Laramie, Wyoming while Arthur pursued his pharmacy degree at the University of Wyoming while Lois supported him. Together they built a wonderful life, in 1959 they moved into their new home on Market Street in Granger, Utah where they lived for 54 years. There, they raised their two daughters and formed lifelong friendships. The family traditions she created for every holiday and season have been passed down to her children and grandchildren and beyond.
Lois dedicated time and talents to her family, church, and community. She enjoyed serving as the PTA President on a local and state level and as President of the Women’s Pharmacy Auxiliary. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she served in many capacities including President of the Primary and the Stake Young Women’s President. She had gift for decorating cultural halls for Teen Dances and creating memorable events that left a lasting impact on those she served.
Lois worked as a secretary to Norm Bangerter in the home building business for 20 years. When Norm later became Governor of Utah she and Arthur enjoyed attending special events, including the Governor’s Ball.
Lois and Arthur loved to travel. With family and friends, they explored many states and National Parks. They embarked on a cross-country road trip to New York City with their girls that included Broadway plays and a baseball game in Yankee Stadium. Later their travels took them to Guatemala, Nova Scotia, Alaska as well as France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy.
In 1994 Lois and Arthur served a mission to California Roseville where they supported and love working with hundreds of missionaries. Upon returning home they served as ordinance workers in the Jordan River Temple for many years.
Lois will be remembered for her kindness, her faith and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by daughters Susan (Ned) Callister, Leigh Ann (Jack) McCann, 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents Kenneth and Miriam Hatch and siblings; Elsie Lea, Loel Kay, and Francis.
Lois never missed an opportunity to tell her family she loved them – sometimes in a long “Foster goodbye,” and no matter what life threw at her she always said, “I’m fine.”
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
