Linda Ann Parkinson Ballard, wife, mother, grandmother and sister, died January 22, 2024 at her home in Midvale, Utah. Linda was proud to pass the 80 year mark and then some! She was born in Payson, Utah on March 13, 1941. Her parents are Taylor and Vera Johnson Parkinson, former residents of Benjamin, Utah. Linda always spoke fondly and proudly of growing up in Benjamin. She was educated in Benjamin and Spanish Fork; then attended BYU for one year.
Gainful employment using her secretarial skills provided her with rich and varied experiences, including positions in Utah, California and while serving as a missionary in the Northern States Mission. Lasting friendships were made as she worked in the Jordan School District. Her reputation was the “Candy Lady” who earned the title of “Peacemaker.” She enjoyed leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society organizations, which gave her a deserved sense of accomplishment.
On September 2, 1965, Linda married Del Ballard in the St. George LDS Temple. As she supported Del in his mortuary service, she demonstrated skills of patience, hard work, humor, and consideration of others. She was an asset to Del and to Goff Mortuary. Raising two sons proved to be a rich and fulfilling experience, and even more so as the grandchildren came along. “God bless the grands!” she would exclaim as she headed out the door with Del's wallet.
Survivors of Linda include her husband, Del; sons, Brian (Paige), Kent, Washington; Scott (Joni), South Jordan; grandchildren, Linzie (Jacob) Horton, Logan, Utah and Grenada, West Indies; Brenden (Rebecca), Midvale; Kelsey, Irvine, California; Chandler, serving in the Arizona Gilbert Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Spencer, Kent, Washington. Also survived by siblings, John (Diane), Payson, Robert J. (Bisi), Nigeria. Preceded in death by a grandson, Logan Ballard; parents; sister, Donna Hill and brother-in-law, Max Hill; and brother, George J. and sister-in-law, Carolyn Louise Parkinson.
There will be a funeral event to honor Linda at the Midvale 5th Ward Chapel, 8171 S Jackson St., Midvale, Utah, on Monday January 29, 2024 at 11:00 am. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S State, Midvale, on Sunday from 6-8 pm and on Monday at the church from 9:30-10:45 am. Linda will be buried in the Midvale City Cemetery.
