Leah Nora Sampson

Nora was born in Lehi, Utah, on January 4, 1929 to Stephan Perry Abbott and Lorena May Gee Abbott. She died on September 24, 2015 in Murray, Utah. She married William C. Sampson, Jr. in 1952. Later divorced. They made their home in Midvale.

Nora loved to learn. She graduated from Lehi High School and Brigham Young University and continued her lifelong education by auditing college classes, personal study, and worldwide travel.

She worked for the telephone company in Lehi for six years and for the LDS Church Educational System in Salt Lake City for 22 years, retiring in 1994.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including an English- and Spanish-speaking mission to the Orlando Florida Temple in 1998-1999. She enjoyed doing family history and temple work.

She also served as a volunteer teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) and Reading. She was active in Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She loved to write and won prizes for her poetry and short stories. She also wrote several family biographies.

Nora is survived by her children Christine Baker, Deborah Jaynes-Eggett, Barbara d'Artenay, William Sampson, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and her daughter Mary Anne.

Services will be held Tuesday, September 29, at 12 noon at the Midvale East 6th Ward, 7250 South 300 East. There will be a viewing Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 So. State, Midvale, and again Tuesday at the church from 11-11:45 a.m. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
