Our loving mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10th, 2020 (Mothers Day) wife to Melchor Navarro whom she had 5 kids with and 4 from a previous marriage, so 8 children. Lazara was known as "Mariquita" by her husband, family, and friends. She was born on December 17th, of 1939.
She lived a peaceful life and came from Guadalajara then Tijuana to San Diego then to set roots in Midvale, Utah with her husband Melchor. She became a housewife and caregiver to children in the neighborhood who's moms needed help, she treated the kids she took care of as her own, they would call her grandma as well and loved her food. Mariquits was known for her phenomenal authentic Mexican cooking skills, Melchor would tell us that is how she got him to fall in love with him.
Mariquita was a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother who knew how to handle pain. If strength was a person it would be her; she was a warrior who got left paralyzed on one side of her body by a stroke but she still kept cooking and caring for people till the day she passed. There wasn't ever a day there wasn't a warm cooked meal in the kitchen and her radio blasting to Vicente Fernandez while she fixed up a plate. It didn't matter if you weren't hungry the smell of her food would make you hungry.
She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren so much, she would sing us nursery rhymes and knew her way around children and to care for them, it was her passion and purpose. Lazara "Mariquita" Navarro is survived by her 8 children, 28 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Her love and memories will be carried on by all of us, she will never be forgotten, she will live in our hearts forever.
Descanse En Paz Abuelita.
