LaVerne Hathaway, 99, passed away October 3, 2021. She was born December 31, 1921 to Fred Duke Brown and Erna Grace (Miner) Brown in Provo, Utah. She was predeceased by husbands Walter Dewayne Peebles and John Jay Hathaway, daughter Marilyn Forst, sisters Melba Birrell and Frances Mikawa, and brother Fred Brown.
She is survived by her sister Marie Smith and children Carol Richards, Walter Dewayne Peebles, and Russell Hathaway, nephews Gary and Darrol Dresler, and Dana and Hunter Bauer. LaVerne was an outdoor girl enjoying camping and hiking with the Sierra Club. She was also an avid gardener and gourmet cook. When she retired from McDonnell Douglas Aircraft she moved from California to Sandy, Utah. There she kept a garden worthy of Better Homes and Gardens Magazine. She lived from her garden; canning and sharing her crops with family and friends.
LaVerne had requested there be no funeral. Her interment will be in Sandy, Utah at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery on October 13, 2021. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life on her 100th birthday December 31, 2021.
