Our amazing mom, grandma, sister, and friend passed away on June 7, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born in American Fork, Utah on July 18, 1924 to Rollo Marshall and Eliza Johnson Miller. She was the second of seven children and was actively involved in the care of her three brothers and three sisters. She was raised in American Fork and graduated from American Fork High School.

She married her eternal companion, Doyle Edward Nokes in the Manti Temple on July 22, 1942. They were blessed with four children: Vernon, Loralee, Kimberly, and Kelly. While raising her family, Mom was employed as a bookkeeper for most of her life, spending many years at Butterfield Motor. She had a love of learning and was dedicated in making sure things were done correctly. She continued her education taking evening classes.

She served in many callings in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A highlight for her was being involved in the Young Women's organization and serving at girls' camp for many years. She was a champion for the Scouting program, working tirelessly to assist dozens of young men earn their Eagle Scout awards. For her efforts, she was a recipient of the Silver Beaver award. She was also actively involved in the PTA at local, regional, and state levels. Any free time was spent camping, fishing, and doing other outdoor activities with family and friends.

Laurel's beloved husband, Doyle Edward Nokes, passed away in September of 1976. She married Willard Melvin Bills on September 17, 1980, enlarging her family circle. Together, they served a mission in the Hill Cumorah Mission in Palmyra, New York. After returning home, Laurel filled her days serving as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple until Willard passed away in May of 1993. Laurel was blessed to find companionship with a long-time family friend, Ross Butterfield; someone she trusted and respected through years of association at work, church, and family outings. They were married on June 1, 1994, again expanding her family circle. After 25 years of traveling, quilting, and enjoying family together, Ross passed away on June 5, 2019, with Laurel at his bedside. Not wanting to be left behind again, Laurel passed away a few short hours later. Laurel had the opportunity to care for and be cared for by three wonderful husbands and their families.

Laurel is survived by three of her children, Loralee (Neils) Peterson, Kim (Brent) Ritzman, Kelly (Connie) Nokes, daughter-in-law Tava Lee Nokes; 22 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-granchildren; brother Garth Miller; two sisters Joyce (Gary) Baccus and Carma (Sam) Elliff; two sisters-in-law June Miller and Shirley Miller; Ross' children, Dennis (Vicky) Butterfield, Claudia (John) Johnson, Norman (Pauline) Butterfield, Connie Boulton, Colette (Scott) Davis, Cindy (Carl) Sorensen, Carleen (John) Chatwin; 27 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, & 1 great-great grandchild; Willard's children, Linda (Jack) Butterfield, Carla Crossley, Duane (Valarie) Bills; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Ross Butterfield, Willard Bills, Doyle Nokes; parents, Rollo and Eliza Miller; son, Vernon Nokes; grandson, Kameryn Nelson; granddaughter, Kaden McConkey Fraughton; great-grandson, Odin Vernon Forsgren; siblings, Elaine Perry, Donn Miller, and Paul Miller.

A viewing will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street, Midvale, Utah from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the West Jordan 21st Ward Building, 7511 South 2700 West, West Jordan, Utah at 12:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Family prayer will be immediately prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT directly following the funeral service.
