Larry Curtis Johnston

Larry Curtis Johnston, age 85, passed away on December 6, 2024 in Midvale, Utah. He was born October 13, 1939 in Provo, Utah to Curtis William Johnston and Ida Lewis Johnston.

He has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Brigham Young University. He married Shirlee Lee Volk and was sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on May 20, 1966. 

Larry worked at Lagoon for a few years in his teenage years, playing his French horn in the marching band. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission for them in the Northwestern States (Washington, Oregon, and Idaho).

He was set up on a blind date with Shirlee, three months later they were engaged, and married on May 20, 1966. He loved square dancing, going to family reunions in Kanab, Utah, and loved spending time with family. 

He loved to people watch, so working at the movie theatre was a good side job cause he loved to interact with people.

 His oldest daughter’s earliest memory was watching HeeHaw, American Bandstand, Solid Gold, and wrestling. 

His son’s memory was going to Monster Truck shows with dad. His children loved to hear him sing, laugh and sneeze. His sneezes shook his whole body and were so loud you could hear them throughout the whole house. 

Surviving relatives include his children: Joa (David-deceased) Largent- resides in West Valley City, UT; Tyla (Jason) Sadler- in Taylorsville, UT; Shanna (Shaun) Lamph- in Herriman, UT; Garth Johnston- in West Valley City, UT; Siblings: Kent Johnston, and Janeen DeMille; 8 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by wife, Shirlee; Parents; Daughter: Karma Janeen Johnston; Sister: JoAnn Schwesinger. 

Services will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Jordan North 3rd Ward Building 4145 South 3920 West, West Valley City, UT 84120. A viewing will take place from 9:30-10:45 AM followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment will be on Monday, December 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm, located at Valley View Memorial Park, 4400 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120.
