Larry Theron Hutchings

"I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. [2 Timothy 4:7]" On Sunday, July 19, 2020, in the company of his wife and children, Larry Theron Hutchings passed away of natural causes. He had embraced life, and after 81 years, simply wore his body out.

Larry could out-work anyone. His uncommon strength was matched only by his legendary stubbornness and tenacity in pursing the vision he had for his life and his family.  He was always looking at what needed to be done and planning experiences he wanted to share.

His footsteps were sure and his hand steady at the wheel - whether it be his Cadillac, tractor, hay bailer, pickup truck (overflowing with kids and sleeping bags), Gold Wing, RV (full of grandkids pleading him to keep going and NOT take the home exit), houseboat, or speedboat (exploring the majestic canyons of Lake Powell). He provided many, many cherished memories. Thank you for sharing your life and tremendous strength with us.

Larry Theron Hutchings was born on February 27, 1939 to Dr. Theron and Vida Hutchings in Warren, Arizona, and was the eldest of five brothers. He worked on the vast family farm and attended Jordan High School, where he met his sweetheart, Beverly. He attended Brigham Young University and joined the Air Force ROTC. He served an LDS mission in England and Wales, and upon returning home, immediately made plans to marry his love. They have enjoyed 59 years of marriage and companionship.

While raising six children, Larry completed his Business Management degree and matriculated into Cleveland Chiropractic College. He worked in many areas of employment, including forest service, firefighting, and insurance adjustment; but settled on opening a Chiropractic practice which he maintained through his life. His professional work was equaled by his religious and community service. He looked for opportunities to do both together, and to include family in those endeavors. He enjoyed working in the scouting program and built upon the Eagle badge earned in his youth to obtain the Silver Beaver designation. Most of his service, however, was done either anonymously or without fanfare, to fill the needs he saw of those around him.

He is survived by his wife Beverly; his children Sheri (Jeff) Asay, Suzanne (Jeff) Wilson, David (Angella) Hutchings, Diana (Daniel) Newell, and Charlene Basinger; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brothers: Deon (Carol), Roger, Calvin (Sherri), and Byron (Lynne). He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Brenda (Gordon) Haight, his parents, and sister-in-law (Carol).

Due to the current pandemic, we are not able to accommodate the celebration of life that is deserved, but we so appreciate friends and family who have shared their love and memories with us. Larry will be buried at the South Jordan Cemetery, near his daughter, and we invite you to visit with him there when the time is right.
