Our beloved wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away the morning of February 4th, 2021 with her loving family by her side.
Born in Salina, Utah on August 14, 1939 to Dean Harvey Hales and Valda Bossardt Hales she was given the name of Valda LaReen Hales.
At a very young age LaReen learned a strong work ethic and later helped to provide for her family when her father was seriously injured and her mother had to return to work outside the home.
LaReen married the love of her life, Bruce Littlewood, on August 15, 1958 in the Salt Lake City Temple, the day after she turned 19. They started a family soon after and eventually settled in Midvale, Utah.
LaReen started her 43-year career with Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) in 1959. She worked as a waitress, franchise store owner, and office manager. LaReen received countless awards for her outstanding service, dedication and work ethic. She was honored to be considered a founder of KFC.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing LaReen knew her for her countless acts of love and service. Never did a time exist that she was not thinking of others. It was to her family's amazement that she often knew how to be at the right place at the right time, taking care of those of us in need.
Her incredible compassion and love lead her to many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served with such grace and empathy, loving each person she was able to minister to. She loved the Lord with all her heart, mind, and soul.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved to celebrate each and everyone one of them. LaReen was always up for a party and the opportunity to bring her family together. Taking her family on special vacations was one of her favorite ways to celebrate with loved ones.
LaReen is survived by her husband Bruce, sons Larry (Lory), Greg (Wendie), Jeremy Smith (Julie), daughters Teri, Cyndi (Jon), 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, brother Maloy (Robyn) Hales, and sister Pat (Redge) Jensen.
LaReen's wishes were to be cremated with no funeral services. We will be honoring her with a celebration of life on her birthday in August.
